What are Suku beads?
We didn’t invent the Suku technique, but the artists at Colfax Cloth & Quilt Company did refine the technique and give it a name.

Based on various Japanese words which mean or imply “transparency,” the word “suku” has come to define beads which are covered by a collage of thin layers of clay. Each layer incorporates transluscent clay, allowing us to see below the surface of the bead.

Often foil is included in the layers for an extra elegant sparkle, while the transluscent clay protects and preserves the foil.

What is a fat quarter?
A fat quarter is a piece of fabric which measures approximately 18" x 22" It is the equivalent of a regular one-quarter yard cut of fabric (approximately 9" x 45") but is a more convenient shape for quilters' use.
