Diane Ruhkala Bell

Ms. Bell's extended family has operated granite quarries in Rocklin, California, where she lives with her husband and works in her studio. The quarry lands provide some of the found objects she incorporates in her collages. Her "collagraphs" are printed from collage plates which she seals, inks and transfers to paper with a manual high pressure press. She also uses this press for her monotype and relief prints. Her artwork and caring for her beautiful garden keep her busy. From her garden she picks up leaves, seeds and even paper-like pond scum which she incorporates into her work.

We live in such a beautiful world--all of which inspires me--I can’t wait to get back home and paint it.”
